FC Zurich set to beat Torino, Bologna, Lugano to teenage Swiss-Nigerian left-back
Published: June 20, 2024FC Zurich are reportedly on the verge of announcing the signing of Switzerland U18 international of Nigerian descent, Tobias Okafor.
According to 4-4-2, FC Zurich will confirm the capture of the talented left-back in the coming days and he is joining the 13-time Swiss champions from FC Aarau's youth team.
The Super League club have signed Okafor for the future and will pay Aarau a training compensation of between 150,000 to 200,000 euros.
FC Zurich have seen off competition from Italian duo Torino and Bologna in their bid to sign the Swiss-Nigerian youngster.
Lugano held concrete interest in signing the 17-year-old and offered him a contract.
Although he's eligible to play for the first team, Okafor will start his career at FC Zurich with their U21 team
Okafor will start training with his new teammates at FC Zurich next week and will be coached by Fabio Ingolitsch next season.
He has been described as a versatile fullback, adept at playing both left-back and wing-back positions, and possesses a powerful long-range shot.
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Ike Shorunmu and Nigeria's record goalscorer in history Rashidi Yekini played for FC Zurich in the past.
2015 U20 AFCON winner Ifeanyi Mathew is contracted to FC Zurich until the end of the 2024-2025 season.
