AC Milan considering move for Omorodion as alternative to Manchester United target Zirkzee
Published: June 23, 2024
With a deal for Joshua Zirkzee looking unlikely at the moment, AC Milan have started exploring alternatives with another Nigeria-eligible striker being one of their possible targets.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian giants have identified Spanish-Nigerian player Samuel Omorodion alongside Canada's Jonathan David, both of whom have been linked with Chelsea, as alternatives to Zirkzee.
Reports from the English press indicate that Manchester United are in talks with representatives of Zirkzee over a transfer and are prepared to pay the release clause of 40 million euros in the Bologna striker's contract.
AC Milan need to sign a striker this summer due to the departure of 2018 Fifa World Cup winner Olivier Giroud and have now identified Omorodion as a possible target.
The Atletico Madrid center forward had a decent loan spell with Deportivo Alavés last term in the La Liga and has caught the eye of European heavyweights.
However, he is held in high regard by Atletico Madrid who are reluctant to let him leave this summer even though he has yet to feature in any game for the club situated in the Spanish capital.
The 11-time Spanish champions have already rejected West Ham's €35m bid for the striker and have also had to turn down Chelsea's €40m offer for him.
It is looking likely that they will lose the service of Netherlands forward Memphis Depay whose contract at the club ends this month and it is no surprise that they are trying to keep Omorodion.
