Mason Greenwood swap: Transfer market pundit insists Man Utd have to show real interest in Osimhen
Published: June 25, 2024
Transfer market pundit Luca Marchetti has spoken about the possibility of Manchester United offering Mason Greenwood plus cash to Napoli for Victor Osimhen.
This is premised on a report that emanated yesterday that Napoli would be willing to accept an offer from Manchester United that includes Mason Greenwood heading in the opposite direction to sweeten a proposed deal for Victor Osimhen.
Despite winning the FA Cup and qualifying for the UEFA Europa League as a result, the Premier League giants struggled for most of last season which resulted in their early exit from the Champions League and culminated in their lowest finish ever in the Premier League.
One of the reasons for their struggles was the bluntness in attack with Marcus Rashford failing to recapture his form from the previous season, Rasmus Højlund struggling to adapt to English football and the inconsistency in form and consistency of other forwards.
Thus, they need to fortify their attack this summer with Osimhen being one of the likely targets though his release clause might be the struggling block and the reason behind the reported player plus cash deal.
Speaking on the possibility of the swap deal, Marchetti stated that such a proposal would depend on Manchester United's interest in the Napoli striker
"Osimhen? Napoli have asked United for information on Greenwood, a player followed by many teams, but this exchange will not take place unless Manchester United show real interest in Victor Osimhen" he told Sky Sport Italia via MondoNapoli.
"The great assault on attackers has not yet begun given that all operations have been slowed down by the Copa America and the European Championship, the transfer market will officially open next week."
The Red Devils are also in talks with Dutch-Nigerian forward Joshua Zirkzee over a move to the club.
