Chelsea appoint ex-Super Eagles midfielder into talent management role covering Africa
Published: July 05, 2024As reported by The Athletic, Chelsea have appointed former Super Eagles midfielder Seyi Olofinjana into a talent management role covering the African continent.
He is expected to work alongside a newly appointed scout that will be in charge of recruiting the best legs in Africa for Chelsea and their sister club Strasbourg.
Under the BlueCo ownership, Chelsea have been dedicated to signing the best young talents in Europe and South America in particular.
They have just agreed a deal to sign Portuguese wonderkid Renato Veiga in addition to Omari Kellyman and Marc Guiu that they have signed this summer.
The club will now be hoping to do same in Africa with Olofinjana expected to play a key role in doing that, owing to his experience and knowledge of the continent.
The former Nigeria international has served as loans and pathways manager at Wolverhampton Wanderers before spending a year at Swiss side Grasshoppers Zurich where he served as the technical director.
He is responsible for the acquisition of Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi who left the shores of the country for Liverpool and now represents Nottingham Forest.
Olofinjana is presently the executive director of Nigerian third division side Imperial FC and has now become the first former Super Eagles player to work with Chelsea after Michael Emenalo.
