Motherwell forward Ebiye opens account for the season but guilty of giving away a goal, missing chances
Published: July 21, 2024
It has taken former Akwa United star Moses Ebiye three matches in the new season to open his goalscoring account for Scottish club Motherwell.
Ebiye was among the scorers as Motherwell defeated Clyde FC 3-1 in Group C of the Premier Sports Cup on Saturday at New Douglas Park.
Twelve minutes into the contest, Motherwell were leading thanks to their Nigerian striker who got on the end of a cross from
Ewan Wilson and shot past the goalkeeper from close range.
Ebiye almost doubled the advantage three minutes into the second half but his shot was cleared off the line by Barry Cuddihy, while his effort missed the target a few minutes later.
Just past the hour mark, Lee Hamilton with a deflected shot equalized for the home team but goals from Lennon Miller and Zach Robinson ensured Motherwell secured their second win of the League Cup.
Ebiye, who missed some scoring chances and was at fault for Clyde's equalizer with two successive misplaced passes, made way for Filip Stuparevic with eighteen minutes to go.
Although the Nigerian has not done badly since joining Motherwell in March, having managed three goals in nine outings across all competitions, the Steelmen are in the market for a forward following the departure of Canada international Theo Bair to newly promoted Ligue 1 club Auxerre.
Ebiye has started two of Motherwell's three games in this season's Premier Sports Cup.
