Confirmed: Derby County sign Crystal Palace's youngest PL debutant on season-long loan
Published: July 24, 2024
Through a statement on the club's official website, Derby County have confirmed the signing of Crystal Palace's history-making midfielder David Ozoh on a season-long loan.
Allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively reported three days ago that Ozoh underwent a medical on Monday, July 22 ahead of his unveiling, with the Rams seeing off competition from Ligue 1 outfit RC Lens and Championship rivals West Brom, Cardiff City, Plymouth Argyle and Luton Town to secure his signature.
When he made his Crystal Palace debut off the bench against Newcastle United in January 2023, he became the club's youngest-ever Premier League player at the age of 17 years, eight months and 15 days.
Born in Valencia to Nigerian parents, Ozoh has totaled thirteen matches for Palace's first team since his historic debut against the Magpies, including top flight games against Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
He has joined newly promoted Championship team Derby County in search of regular game time.
The 19-year-old is Derby County's sixth summer signing, following in the footsteps of Ben Osborn, Kayden Jackson, Jerry Yates, Kenzo Goudmijn and Ebou Adams
Ozoh has faced Football League opposition in the past, playing against Wycombe Wanderers, AFC Wimbledon, Stevenage, Swindon Town, Bristol Rovers and Plymouth Argyle in the EFL Trophy.
On the international stage, he has five caps for England U18s but he's open to representing the Super Eagles if approached by the Nigeria Football Federation.
