Chelsea in talks with Napoli over loan deal with option to buy for Victor Osimhen
Published: July 30, 2024
There is a new twist regarding the future of Napoli star forward Victor Osimhen and Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.
According to David Ornstein's report in The Athletic (subscription required), there is an ongoing discussion between Napoli and Chelsea regarding Osimhen moving on loan to the Blues while Lukaku joins the Italian outfit permanently.
Should an agreement be struck between both clubs, the Super Eagles forward will spend next season on loan with the Blues with the Premier side having an option to sign him on a permanent deal.
The possibility of this happening had been reported earlier by Fabrizio Romano but the report didn't contain the deal on how the deal will be structured.
Chelsea and Napoli find themselves at crossroads with their wantaway strikers particularly with no club ready to pay the reigning African Men's Player of the Year release clause.
PSG have been in discussion with Napoli regarding the Nigeria international but have also been reluctant to pay his high valuation and refused the latter's request to include Lee Kang-in.
Chelsea have been long-term admirers of Osimhen and would be happy to see this deal go through as it could bring an end to their long-search for a proven striker and also help them finally dispose of Lukaku who is one of the club's most highly paid players.
