Nwaneri and Nichols rub shoulders with England's Euro 2024 star Saka at Arsenal training
Published: August 04, 2024
Hale End Academy graduates Josh Nichols and Ethan Nwaneri are still training with the Arsenal first team following their return from the United States, where they faced Bournemouth, Manchester United and Liverpool in pre-season games, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Nwaneri and Nichols were given minutes in every single game played by the Gunners during their tour of the United States.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is taking another look at the two players of Nigerian descent before deciding whether or not to name them on his roster for the upcoming friendly against Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday at the Emirates Stadium.
The Spanish football tactician ran the rule over Nwaneri and Nichols during Sunday's workout at Sobha Realty Training Centre on in London Colney.
The Anglo-Nigerian duo rubbed shoulders with 2024 European Championship stars Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Aaron Ramsdale and William Saliba, who have all returned to training after representing their respective counties.
Originally a striker, Nichols is now a dynamic fullback who can play in either side, and made 31 appearances for the Arsenal youth teams last season, taking part in every group match of the UEFA Youth League.
An attacking midfielder by trade, Nwaneri needs no introduction as he is the youngest ever player to feature in the top flight of English football and has made two appearances for Arsenal's first team, both coming in the Premier League against London teams.
Nwaneri and Nichols signed their first professional contracts with Arsenal in 2024.
