Tosin makes debut, Madueke finds the net as Chelsea beat Servette 2-0 in Conference League playoff
Published: August 22, 2024
Super Eagles-eligible defender Tosin Adarabioyo made his competitive debut for Chelsea during their 2-0 win over Servette in the first leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League play-off on Thursday night at Stamford Bridge.
Christopher Nkunku put the Blues ahead in the 50th from the spot after an infringement was committed by Servette's goalkeeper Jeremy Frick.
England U21 international of Nigerian descent, Noni Madueke, who also played his first game under Enzo Maresca, gave Chelsea a two-goal cushion in the 76th minute.
The talented forward was fed by Enzo Fernández inside the box and he unleashed a shot into the top right corner to put the Blues in control of the tie.
Tosin played for the entire duration of the game, making 144 touches, completing 94% of his passes, winning all his aerial duels, making eight clearances and blocking three shots, according to Sofascore.
Despite being registered by Chelsea for the UEFA Conference League playoff, Anglo-Nigerian midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka did not make the matchday squad, raising more doubts about his future with the Premier League giants.
The second leg will take place at Stade de Genève next Thursday but the Stamford Bridge outfit will face Wolverhampton Wanderers on matchday two of the Premier League before then.
