SAFA president Danny Jordaan sends goodwill message to Nigeria ahead of DR Congo clash

President of the South African Football Association (SAFA), Dr. Danny Jordaan, has extended his best wishes to the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff encounter against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Super Eagles booked their place in the playoff final with a commanding 4-1 win over Gabon on Thursday night, while the Leopards edged past Cameroon 1-0 to seal their spot in the decisive clash.

Speaking ahead of the high-stakes fixture, Jordaan reflected on Nigeria’s strong showing during the qualifiers, noting that South Africa had firsthand experience of their quality.

"Nigeria was in our group. It was a very tight group and stressed in the end,” he said in a video posted on social media by the federation.

The SAFA president went on to offer words of encouragement to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), especially former NFF president Amaju Pinnick, whom he referred to as a personal friend.

"So, I want to wish Nigeria all the best for their match,” Jordaan stated.

"To Pinnick my friend and to all the President of the NFF all the best and deliver the result.”

Praising the depth and quality within the Super Eagles squad, he added that Nigeria has the talent to rise to the occasion.

“Nigeria is a big team. Nigeria has got players among the best in the world and I hope they would play through to their form and ability and deliver the result.”

Nigeria will now face DR Congo in the final playoff on Sunday at the Moulay Hassan Stadium.

The Leopards hold the advantage in the head-to-head record between both sides, with three wins and one draw, while Nigeria have managed two victories in their six previous meetings.

Eric Chelle’s men will be aiming for another crucial win to seal their place in the intercontinental playoffs scheduled for March 2026, bringing them a step closer to qualifying for the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
