'I don't see the N167.6b' - Chelle reveals what it takes to manage 'best striker in the world' Osimhen

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has explained what it takes to manage one of the most valuable players in the world, Victor Osimhen, who is currently valued at over €100 million (approximately N167.6 billion in Nigerian currency).

Osimhen joined Galatasaray during the summer transfer window for a record-breaking fee of €75 million, the highest amount ever paid by a Turkish club to sign a player.

Following a scintillating start to the season for both club and country, the striker has netted 14 goals in 16 appearances.

His prolific form has put him in the spotlight, with top European clubs, including Barcelona, reportedly monitoring his progress.

When asked how he manages a €100 million-rated player like Osimhen, Chelle made it clear that his priority is not the striker's price tag, but creating a secure environment that allows him to perform at his best.

"When I am in front of the player, I don't see the 100m euros, I see the superstar that you have to manage," Chelle said on Impact by Tiguida podcast

"When you are a manager, the first thing you do when you arrive to take over a team is to establish rules. We can't live without rules because we all need to be safe.

"The most important thing was to put a framework around these players, all my staff, all my officials.

"There are 50 of us, so everyone feels safe that we are protected from each other and from the outside. Once you are protected, people can express themselves internally."

Chelle reiterated that his management style focuses on the player rather than the price tag.

"He's worth 100 million euros, for me, he's the best striker in the world. It's not the superstar that interests me, it is the man who interests me."

Osimhen is set to lead the Super Eagles attack on Sunday evening when they take on the Democratic Republic of Congo in the African final of the 2026 World Cup qualifying playoffs.
