'If I am given a chance' - Orlando Pirates star Ndah aiming for Super Eagles home debut v Cheetahs
Published: September 06, 2024
Orlando Pirates central defender Olisa Ndah is hoping to make his home debut for the Super Eagles in their upcoming clash against Republic on Saturday.
The highly anticipated match will take place at the Uyo Township Stadium at 5 p.m. local time.
Ndah, who has been in impressive form for the South African club, expressed his eagerness to don the Nigerian colours in front of home fans.
Despite having represented the Super Eagles in away games, the 25-year-old defender has yet to make an appearance on home soil.
Speaking ahead of the match, Ndah emphasized his readiness to seize the opportunity if selected by coach Austin Eguavoen.
"If I am given a chance, definitely I would love to take my chance," Ndah said to reporters.
Ndah is part of the squad currently in camp in Uyo, as the Super Eagles prepare for the encounter against the Cheetahs.
Nigeria is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June.
Reflecting on the defeat, "Right now we are just focused on getting back to winning ways. We are just focused on Saturday; it doesn't matter who is starting or who is on the bench.
"I think the focus as a nation and as a unit is to be able to win the game on Saturday.”
The Super Eagles are winless in their last three games across all competitions, having suffered two defeats against Mali and Benin Republic and securing one draw against Bafana Bafana.
As they prepare to face Republic of Benin, the team will be eager to return to winning form following an impressive showing at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament earlier in 2024.
