Ex-Super Eagles star urges Eguavoen to make two changes to starting lineup in Afconq against Rwanda
Published: September 10, 2024
Former Super Eagles defender Sam Elijah has recommended two strategic changes for Nigeria's interim manager, Austin Eguavoen ahead of their Group D Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda.
The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, where Nigeria aims to build on their impressive start at the 2025 AFCON tournament.
The Super Eagles secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Benin's Cheetahs in their opening game last Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Speaking with allnigeriasoccer.com before the Rwanda clash, Elijah suggested that Victor Osimhen and Moses Simon should replace Victor Boniface and Samuel Chukwueze respectively in the starting lineup.
"Well for me the changes that I want, Osimhen should come in, and Boniface should sit down," Elijah stated.
"Samuel Chukwueze should also sit-down and Moses Simon should come in.
"For the midfield, it is not bad, and for the defenders, I think they did well. These are the changes I think should be done in Rwanda's game."
Both Osimhen and Simon impressed during their brief appearances against Benin.
Osimhen replaced Boniface and scored within six minutes of his introduction, while Simon provided the assist for Ademola Lookman's third goal.
Elijah believes these changes will strengthen Nigeria's chances of securing a crucial win against Rwanda.
The Super Eagles hope to continue their strong form and maintain momentum in the tournament with a victory today in Kigali.
