'He's a top-top team player' - Randers coach vows to give more game time to Odey after failed summer move
Published: September 17, 2024
Speaking to reporters after Randers' 1-1 draw with FC Nordsjaelland in the Danish Superliga on Monday, manager Rasmus Bertelsen has vowed to give more playing time to Nigerian attacker Stephen Odey.
Randers sporting director Søren Pedersen revealed before the close of the summer transfer window in Europe that the club fielded inquiries from unnamed clubs who were interested in the Nigerian.
However, the window closed for business and Odey remained a player of Randers for the time being.
The former Mountain of Fire star has participated in all the nine matches contested by Randers in the new season, nine in total across all competitions, and played for roughly half an hour in yesterday's game against FC Nordsjaelland.
And after the match, the club's head coach Rasmus Bertelsen stated that Stephen Odey will get plenty of minutes in the Randers jersey in the upcoming games.
"He's a boy's man. People may not think so, but he is a top-top team player," he was quoted as saying by bold.dk.
"He congratulates the others when they start inside. When he has to play a cup match against B 1913 on Funen, he gives it everything he has and scores a hat-trick.
"He is a top guy to work with and I really hope he gets his goalscoring streak going again.
"Today (Monday, ed.) when he comes in, and also the task he has in the Park, where he plays alone up front in fewer numbers, he shows that he has really good skills.
"He can keep the ball, play the other good players, press well. He will probably get plenty of minutes as long as I'm here."
The 26-year-old Odey has tallied 26 goals in 106 games for Randers since joining from Racing Genk in the summer of 2021.
