Why Chelsea rejected AC Milan's approach for Chukwuemeka in the summer - Fabrizio Romano
Published: September 30, 2024Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has shed light on why Chelsea turned down AC Milan's approach for Carney Chukwuemeka in the summer.
The young midfielder, seeking more game time to aid his development, garnered interest from several top European clubs, including AC Milan.
Despite this interest, Chukwuemeka remained at Chelsea and has struggled to secure playing minutes so far this season.
Romano, on his YouTube channel, discussed the position of Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca on the situation of Chukwuemeka at Chelsea.
He revealed that Maresca has also been clear with the plan for Chukwuemeka this summer.
"Enzo Maresca is always very honest and very clear and he's never hiding things even when speaking to the press in public," Romano stated.
"Enzo Maresca clarified that the plan for Chelsea this summer is for Carney to leave on loan, this was the idea."
Romano added that Chelsea rejected multiple offers, including AC Milan, because they want to ensure Chukwuemeka joins a club where he can play regularly.
"But to leave on loan only with a good opportunity with a club maybe giving him the opportunity to play 38 games.
"Not moving to clubs where he was not going to be a regular starter. This was why Chelsea rejected many approaches including AC Milan and others during the summer transfer window."
As the January transfer window approaches, Romano clarified that both Chukwuemeka and Chelsea are keen to resolve the situation.
He emphasized the player is eager for more playing time, and the club is actively seeking a suitable destination to facilitate his growth and development on the field.
"So they will look for a solution on January, the player wants to play and Chelsea don't want him to stay out of the squad for too long. Work in progress already in January to find a solution," he clarified.
Carney Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea in 2022 from Aston Villa. Since then, he has made 28 appearances, scoring 2 goals in all competitions.
This season, he has played just one match across all competitions -fourteen minutes in the 5-0 win over Barrow in the Carabao Cup.
