'Barcelona is not going to be easy' - Sevilla dazzler Ejuke admits before facing Dani Olmo, Yamal and co
Published: October 19, 2024
Super Eagles forward Chidera Ejuke has returned to Andalusia after being away on international duty with the Super Eagles, and he's looking forward to facing Barcelona in a La Liga clash scheduled to hold at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Sunday evening.
Ejuke earned a recall to the Super Eagles after more than two years in the international wilderness thanks to his impressive performances for Sevilla, whom he joined from CSKA Moscow in the summer.
The 26-year-old is La Liga's stat leader for dribbles completed, registering 28 across eight games to place first ahead of Ballon d'Or 2024 nominees Lamine Yamal (27), Kylian Mbappé (23) and Vinícius Júnior (20).
Ejuke acknowledged that Sevilla have a tough task beating Barcelona, who are undefeated in the last seventeen games between the two clubs in the Spanish top flight.
This season, Sevilla's away form has been disappointing, as they have yet to secure a victory in four games, recording three draws and a loss.
Although he is being touted as one of the Sevilla players to watch out for against Barcelona, Ejuke has managed just one goal in eight outings and is keen to add to the tally.
In an interview with SportyTV, Ejuke said: "As an attacking player this is one of your aims, to always shoot the ball at the back of the net every opportunity you get and helping your teammates in terms of assisting goals and creating chances in front of goal.
"The game against Barcelona is going to be a tough one and we're working hard as a team. We are looking forward to this game because these are the kind of games you always look forward to playing as a player.
"As a team we are looking forward to it and we want to go there, do our best, and hopefully come back with the three points."
Ejuke is hoping he can be the difference against a Barcelona side that includes Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo, Fermin Lopez, Gavi, Pau Cubarsí, Raphinha and Lewandowski.
"It's going to be a game where as a team we have to come together and work hard because playing against Barcelona is not going to be easy, but obviously in situation where I can use my ability to make a difference, definitely I would take those opportunities.
"When you have this God-given talent you can exploit it to make a difference but generally as a group we'd give our best and go for it on Sunday."
