18yo defender Nichols involved in Arsenal final training session at Emirates Stadium pre-Liverpool
Published: October 27, 2024
The 18-year-old Nigerian right-back Josh Nichols was involved in Arsenal's final training session at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday ahead of the Premier League matchday nine fixture with Liverpool, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Gunners are battling with injuries ahead of the crunch tie with their title rivals and there is the possibility of Mikel Arteta having Oleksandr Zinchenko, Gabriel Magalhaes, Jakub Kiwior and Ben White as the only senior defenders available.
This has necessitated Nichols being involved with the first-team training as the Anglo-Nigerian defender keeps pushing for his Premier League debut.
With Ben White available for selection and Thomas Partey capable of playing right back, it is highly unlikely that Nichols gets to play against the Reds due to the magnitude of the fixture.
Arsenal trail Arne Slot's men by four points and a loss today would keep them further from the top of the table and dent their chances of winning their first Premier League title in two decades.
Nichols made his first team debut in the 5-1 triumph over Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup last month and was on the bench in the Premier League fixture with Leicester City earlier this month.
The majority of his playing time has been with the development side, featuring in three Premier League 2 games and the English Football League Trophy fixture with MK Dons.
Nichols has also made two appearances for the Gunners in the UEFA Youth League this season.
