'I got a call' - Super Eagles insider reveals exactly why Osimhen was replaced at half-time
Published: November 17, 2025
Super Eagles insider Colin Udoh has shed light on the injury setback that forced Victor Osimhen off at halftime during Nigeria's defeat to DR Congo on Sunday night at the Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium.
The Galatasaray forward, who has been central to Nigeria's 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, was replaced by Sevilla striker Akor Adams at the start of the second half.
Osimhen's absence proved decisive as the Leopards seized control of the encounter, dominating proceedings before eventually edging Nigeria on penalties after the game ended 1-1 in regulation and extra time.
Speaking on ESPN, Udoh confirmed that Osimhen had suffered a hamstring injury, prompting the technical crew to take precautionary action.
"He was taken off at halftime. I got a call into the team and I found out that he had a hamstring problem and that's why he was taken off at halftime."
Udoh also lamented the impact of Osimhen’s absence, noting his decisive influence on Nigeria’s performances
"Whenever Osimhen has played and scored or assisted, Nigeria have never lost a game.
"The moment he went off at halftime, I just knew something was about to happen. But yeah, that’s the situation unfortunately."
The striker is expected to return to Galatasaray for further assessment of the injury.
The Turkish champions will hope for a swift recovery as Osimhen has been in exceptional form this season, scoring nine goals in twelve matches across all competitions.
