Red-hot Nigerian striker celebrates new Manchester United deal with another goal for youth team
Published: November 30, 2024
Nigerian striker Chido Obi-Martin celebrated his new Manchester United deal by scoring a goal in the 3-0 win over Stoke City in the U18 Premier League fixture played at Clayton Wood Training Ground on Saturday afternoon.
The precocious talent penned a professional contract on Friday, the first in his career, with the Premier League giants, and could not have hoped for a better way to celebrate it.
He opened the scoring in the 71st minute from the penalty spot, after he was brought down in the penalty area. After initial talks on who to take the spot kick, the talented striker stepped up to dispatch it home.
Eight minutes before stoppage time, Spanish-Nigerian forward Victor Musa wasted an opportunity to double the lead for the away side by failing to beat the goalkeeper with his effort.
James Scanlon eventually gave United a two-goal lead before Dante Plunkett closed the scoring a minute in the 89th minute through a rebound.
Obi-Martin has now netted five goals in five games in the U18 Premier League this term and also has one assist to his credit.
Since failing to score or assist on his debut against Sunderland last month, the 17-year-old has registered at least a goal involvement in every other game that he has featured.
Manchester United sit comfortably atop the North U18 Premier League, with 30 points from 10 games, and are the only side yet to drop a point in the division.
