Super Eagles striker Sadiq makes winning debut for Valencia in 2-0 victory against Eldense
Published: January 08, 2025
Sadiq Umar made his debut for Valencia in a commanding 2-0 victory over Eldense in the Copa del Rey on January 7, 2025.
The Nigerian forward, who joined the club on loan from Real Sociedad, had been registered by LaLiga just days earlier and was eagerly anticipated to make his first appearance for Valencia.
Valencia quickly asserted dominance, with Sergi Canós opening the scoring in the 9th minute, finishing a well-timed cross from Diego López.
The early goal settled the visitors into a rhythm, and they continued to press for more, with Eldense struggling to break through Valencia's defense.
In the 39th minute, Valencia doubled their lead through Diego López, who found the top corner of the net with a precise right-footed shot from close range, assisted by Canós.
Umar, who entered the match as a substitute in the 58th minute, was involved in a few key moments.
His first chance came in the 91st minute when he took a shot from outside the box, which was saved by Eldense's goalkeeper, Dani Martín.
He had another opportunity moments later, again testing Martín with a right-footed attempt from a similar range.
Umar also had an offside call go against him and received a yellow card for a foul late in the game.
The match saw Valencia dominate possession, and despite several chances from Eldense, including a few shots blocked and saved by Valencia's defense and goalkeeper, the scoreline remained unchanged.
Valencia's solid defensive work, coupled with effective offensive play, ensured they would progress to the next round.
Umar's debut performance, though not marked by a goal, showcased his ability to get involved in attacking situations and his potential to contribute as Valencia heads into the remainder of their campaign.
The 2-0 win secured Valencia's passage to the next stage, and Umar will be eager to make a stronger impact when he takes the field in La Liga.
