Nottingham Forest insist West Ham target Awoniyi won't leave without replacement signed
Published: January 14, 2025
Taiwo Awoniyi faces an uncertain future at this season's Premier League surprise package Nottingham Forest despite having a contract with the two-time European champions until June 30, 2027.
The Nigeria international is angling for a move away from the City Ground before the close of the January transfer window due to a lack of playing opportunities.
Since the start of the 2024-2025 season, the former Union Berlin goal poacher has started just two games out of a possible twenty in the Premier League.
With Chris Wood in good form, Awoniyi has been unable to break into the starting eleven, and this situation is expected to remain the same for the rest of the season.
According to Sky Sports UK, Nottingham Forest will not allow the Super Eagles center forward to depart the club in the winter transfer market unless a replacement is signed.
Feyenoord's Santiago Gimenez was a target for the Reds last summer, and it is still uncertain whether they will renew their interest in the Mexican striker.
West Ham are monitoring the situation of Awoniyi but nothing is concrete at the moment as they have not yet initiated discussions with either the Nigerian forward or Nottingham Forest.
Awoniyi is not the only Super Eagles player at Nottingham Forest whose future is uncertain as Ola Aina has entered the final six months of his contract and has been linked with Manchester City and Galatasaray, while Emmanuel Dennis has been deemed surplus to requirements.
