Official: Son of former Super Eagles left-back signs new contract at Chelsea
Published: January 23, 2025
With a statement on the official website, Premier League giants Chelsea have announced that talented midfielder Landon Emenalo has signed a new deal with the club.
The 2008-born player has put pen to paper on his first professional contract after celebrating his seventeenth birthday.
He began the 2004-2025 season as a first year scholar, alongside Olutoye Subuloye who went pro last month.
Landon is the son of former Nigeria international left-back Michael Emenalo, currently director of football of the Saudi Pro League.
Michael Emenalo, onetime Chelsea technical director, shone for Nigeria at the 1994 World Cup as cover for the injured Benedict Iroha, and a year later he was named in the squad for the King Fahd Cup.
Landon joined Chelsea at U8 level before relocating to Monaco and then returned to Cobham as an U13.
He made his competitive debut for Chelsea U21s in his final season as a schoolboy, coming off the bench for the last thirteen minutes of a 4-1 win over Colchester United in the Premier League Cup in January 2024.
This season, Emenalo has appeared in ten matches in the U18 Premier League and scored his first goal in the division against Leicester City last August.
On the international stage, the Arizona native became provisionally cap-tied to England on October 24, 2024, when he started against Malta in a European U17 Championship qualifier.
Previously Emenalo played for the United States at U17 level and was invited to attend a United States U16 training camp.
