Brentford loan in Fiorentina defender Kayode with an option to buy of N25.4 billion
Published: January 24, 2025
Through official channels, English Premier League club Brentdord have confirmed the signing of Italian-Nigerian defender, Michael Kayode, subject to international clearance.
The Fiorentina-owned fullback has joined the Bees on loan for the remainder of the 2024-2025 season, with an option to make the transfer permanent in the summer.
The purchase option is sixteen million euros (approximately N25.4 billion in Nigerian currency), according to Italian transfer market reporter Fabrizio Romano.
Kayode was a key member of the Fiorentina squad last season, making thirty-seven appearances in all competitions, including thirty-one starts, and registered five goal involvements (1 goal, 4 assists).
However, he has struggled for playing time in the current season, having made just one start from a possible twenty in the Italian top-flight.
Kayode first came to prominence at the 2023 European U19 Championship, where he scored the game-winning goal for Italy in a 1-0 win over Portugal in the final.
In the tournament held in Malta, the 20-year-old impressed with his ability to play across different positions, including right back, left wingback and winger.
He was subsequently promoted to the Italy U21 squad, earning three caps to his name.
For the remainder of the season, Kayode will play with the number 33 on the back of his Brentford jersey.
