Announcement imminent: Hearts defender Oyegoke agrees move to Verona
Published: January 27, 2025
Italian Serie A side Hellas Verona have pulled off a stunning transfer coup by winning the race for Hearts defender Daniel Oyegoke.
The Nigerian-born right-back had been heavily linked with a move to Lecce, but Verona have hijacked the deal and secured Oyegoke's signature until 2028 with an option to extend to 2029.
According to renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Verona have finalized the deal, beating off competition from Lecce.
The Italian club's swift action has paid off, and they have secured the services of one of the most promising young defenders in the Scottish Premiership.
Oyegoke's impressive performances for Hearts had caught the attention of several clubs, including Lecce, who had initially identified him as the perfect replacement for Patrick Dorgu who is in negotiations to join English Premier League giants Manchester United.
However, Verona's late intervention has seen them pip Lecce to the post and secure the 22-year-old's signature.
Oyegoke joined Hearts from Brentford on a three-year deal and has since become an integral part of the Edinburgh club's defense.
His impressive displays have earned him recognition at the international level, with Oyegoke representing England at various youth levels.
As Oyegoke prepares to embark on a new chapter in his career, he will be delighted at an opportunity to test himself in one of Europe's top leagues.
On the other hand, Verona will be hoping that the young defender can make an immediate impact.
