Done deal: Forgotten Super Eagles midfielder joins Tunisian club US Monastir
Published: January 31, 2025
Forgotten Super Eagles midfielder Kingsley Michael has secured a move to Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1 side, Union Sportive Monastirienne, as confirmed by the club's official channels.
The 25-year-old Nigerian has signed a two-season deal with the club, joining the Tunisian giants as a free agent.
Michael, who was last on the books of Austrian side DSV Leoben, has been without a club since the summer of 2024.
However, he has now found a new home in North Africa, where he will be looking to get his career back on track.
US Monastir, who are currently chasing the Tunisian top-flight league title, will be hoping that Michael's arrival will provide a boost to their squad.
The team is currently level on points with third-placed Club Africain and second-placed Espérance, with 33 points from 15 league games, just one point behind leaders Stade Tunisien.
For Michael, this move represents a fresh start and an opportunity to rebuild his career.
The midfielder has previously played in Italy and Austria, scoring one goal and providing four assists throughout his career in Europe.
He will now be looking to adapt to the North African football scene and make a positive impact at US Monastir.
Michael's last and only appearance for the Super Eagles was during the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Cape Verde, where Nigeria won 2-1.
A return to form with US Monastir could put him back on the map of the National team selectors, which would be a welcome boost to his career.
The midfielder has a wealth of experience playing in Europe, having featured for Italian sides Bologna, Cremonese, Perugia, and Reggina, as well as Austrian clubs SV Reid and DSV Leoben.
This will be his first stint in North African football, and he will be looking to make a positive impression.
