'I don't think' - Turkish pundit insists Fenerbahce defence no match for 19-goal striker Osimhen
Published: February 20, 2025
With the highly anticipated Galatasaray-Fenerbahce derby approaching, Turkish football pundit Serdar Ali Celikler has expressed doubts over Fenerbahce's defensive capabilities, particularly against Galatasaray's star striker Victor Osimhen, who has 19 goals to his name in all competitions so far this season.
Speaking on the Vole YouTube channel, Celikler assessed the defensive options available to Fenerbahce and suggested that they would struggle to contain the Nigerian forward.
"It is not possible for Davinson Sanchez, Carlos Cuesta, and Abdülkerim Bardakcı to keep En-Nesyri," he said, as quoted by habersarikirmizi.com.
"If Galatasaray is going to play with three at the back, Sallai will 100% start on the left wing. Eren Elmalı would be a big risk."
He then turned his attention to Fenerbahce's defensive struggles, expressing concerns about their ability to handle Osimhen.
"I don't think Fenerbahçe defenders can keep Victor Osimhen either. Most of the stoppers are injured, and those who are playing have just returned from injury," he added.
Osimhen, who has been a crucial figure for Galatasaray this season, has been linked with a summer move away from the club.
Despite ongoing speculation about his future, the Nigerian striker has continued to perform at a high level, earning praise for his commitment to the team.
Celikler's comments add to the growing discussion around the upcoming derby, which is expected to be a pivotal match in the Turkish Süper Lig title race.
With Galatasaray and Fenerbahce both vying for supremacy, the performance of key players like Osimhen could be decisive.
The fixture also carries additional intrigue due to the presence of José Mourinho at Fenerbahçe.
The Portuguese tactician has been backed in the transfer market, and Celikler believes that he must deliver results.
As the derby draws closer, all eyes will be on how both teams prepare for what promises to be a high-stakes encounter.
Whether Fenerbahçe can overcome their defensive concerns and keep Osimhen at bay remains to be seen.
