Why Osayi-Samuel must move on: Four key reasons Super Eagles fullback should leave Fenerbahce

Super Eagles fullback Bright Osayi-Samuel was an unused substitute during Fenerbahce's goalless draw against Galatasaray at RAMS Park, adding to speculation about his future at the club.  

The Nigerian international is out of contract this summer and is currently free to negotiate with any club as a free agent.

With no agreement in place, uncertainty surrounds his future at the Yellow Canaries.

No Contract Extension Agreement

With only a few months left in the season, Bright Osayi-Samuel has yet to reach an agreement with Fenerbahce on a contract renewal.  

In 2024, the Yellow Canaries reportedly offered the Nigerian international a new deal. However, negotiations stalled due to disagreements over certain terms, with Osayi-Samuel reportedly demanding improved financial conditions.  

As the season nears its end without a resolution, the lack of agreement suggests the fullback could be on his way out this summer.

Lost Jose Mourinho's Trust

Osayi-Samuel was once a key player under Jose Mourinho, regularly featuring in Fenerbahce's starting lineup.

However, since the start of 2025, his role has significantly diminished.

The Nigerian has started just one league game this year and has been an unused substitute in two of the last eight matches.

His reduced involvement signals that he may no longer be in the manager's plans.  

Interest from England

Several English clubs, including Crystal Palace, have shown interest in signing Osayi-Samuel.

A return to England would not only offer him a new challenge but also bring him closer to his loved ones.

With his contract running down, a move back to the Premier League or the Championship seems like a strong possibility.  

Rise of Oğuz Aydın

Oğuz Aydın has emerged as a key player for Fenerbahce in 2025, impressing Mourinho with his attacking and defensive contributions.

Originally a winger, Aydın has adapted well to the fullback role, replacing Osayi-Samuel in the starting lineup.

The 24-year-old has started seven of Fenerbahce's league games in 2025, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

His strong performances have made it difficult for Osayi-Samuel to regain his spot.  

With contract uncertainties, reduced game time, and competition from emerging players, Osayi-Samuel appears set for an exit from Fenerbahce this summer.
