Team news: Tosin and George to be named in Chelsea's matchday squad to face FC Copenhagen
Published: March 05, 2025
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has taken two Nigerian players to Denmark for his side's round of 16 Conference League tie against Superliga team FC Copenhagen on Thursday, March 6.
Central defender Tosin Adarabioyo and forward Tyrique George will surely be named in the matchday squad to face FC Copenhagen, given that the Premier League club has sent a squad of twenty-one players to the Danish capital.
Richard Olise, younger brother of former Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise, who has been registered for the Conference League has not been selected.
Cap-tied England international of Nigerian descent Noni Madueke is still recovering from an injury and has been omitted from the travelling squad, and the same applies to Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu, Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia.
Including the qualifying rounds, Tosin has logged six appearances for the Blues in the Conference while George has featured in seven games.
The Manchester City academy graduate helped Chelsea keep two clean sheets in the league phase of the competition and found the net in the 8-0 rout of FC Noah.
Although George impressed with his displays in the Conference League, he ended the league phase without a goal or an assist in six appearances.
Former Gent striker Gift Orban and ex-Feyenoord goal poacher Cyriel Dessers hold the Nigerian record for the most goals scored in the Conference League (10), 2 behind all-time top scorers Arthur Cabral, Vangelis Pavlidis and Eran Zahavi.
