Arsenal forward Nwaneri battles Liverpool and Spurs stars, 5 others for PL Goal of the Month
Published: March 06, 2025
Arsenal forward Ethan Nwaneri has been nominated for the Premier League Goal of the Month award for February 2025, following his spectacular strike against Manchester City in a thrilling 5-1 victory.
The 17-year-old’s incredible goal is part of a competitive shortlist, where he will battle Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur stars, as well as five other top performers, for the prestigious monthly accolade.
Nwaneri’s brilliant goal capped off a remarkable team performance at the Emirates Stadium.
As time ran out in the match, the young forward signaled for a 50-yard cross-field pass from Declan Rice, which was expertly delivered.
Nwaneri controlled the ball well, used a clever decoy run from Jurrien Timber to create space, and then unleashed a powerful left-footed shot from 20 yards into the bottom corner of the net.
City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega was left helpless, watching the ball sail past him and into the back of the net.
The goal was the final touch in a beautiful 36-pass sequence involving all of Arsenal’s outfield players.
This 1 minute and 54-second move was the longest passing sequence leading to a Premier League goal since September 2023, showcasing the fluidity and precision of the Gunners’ attack.
Nwaneri’s strike is one of eight shortlisted for the Goal of the Month award.
Other contenders include Mohamed Salah, who scored a brilliant goal against Bournemouth, and James Tarkowski, who netted a dramatic equalizer in Everton’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool.
Wolves' Matheus Cunha’s clever dummy and shot against the league leaders also made the list, while Kaoru Mitoma’s dazzling finish for Brighton against Chelsea and Daniel Munoz’s counter-attacking strike for Crystal Palace against Fulham are also in contention.
Dejan Kulusevski’s strike for Tottenham against Ipswich Town and Justin Kluivert’s long-range effort for Bournemouth against Brighton complete the list of nominees.
The winner of the Premier League Goal of the Month award will be determined by fans' votes, which will be combined with a panel of experts' selections. Voting is open until Monday, March 10.
This nomination marks a significant milestone in Nwaneri’s career, further highlighting his burgeoning talent and potential as one of Arsenal's brightest young stars.
