Nigerian wonderkid Emmanuel Uchegbu joins MLS outfit Charlotte; Ajax, PSV, Gent miss out
Published: March 07, 2025
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report with certainty that Major League Soccer club Charlotte FC are on the verge of announcing the signing of Nigerian wonderkid Emmanuel Uchegbu.
Charlotte FC have struck a deal with AS Trencin for the transfer of the exciting forward, with personal terms already agreed — making the move all but sealed.
After passing his medical in Europe, Uchegbu put pen to paper on a multi-year contract with the American top-flight side based in North Carolina.
The 20-year-old will travel to the United States in the coming days to kickstart the next phase of his career.
Charlotte FC have pulled off a massive transfer coup by luring Uchegbu to Stateside, beating top European clubs to his signature.
Dutch giants Ajax and PSV Eindhoven registered interest in the highly-rated forward, with the Amsterdam club keeping close tabs on him during the first half of the 2024-2025 season.
KAA Gent engaged in concrete negotiations with AS Trencin but Charlotte FC moved quickly to beat them to Uchegbu's signature.
Dubbed the 'Nigerian Arjen Robben' because of his playing style, Uchegbu has carved out a reputation for scoring spectacular goals.
Ajax Amsterdam talent spotters were in attendance at the MOL Aréna back in December when he scored a Goal of the Season contender as AS Trencin and DAC Dunajska shared the spoils with a thrilling 3-3 draw.
Uchegbu, a product of the Golden Boot Soccer Academy, registered six goal involvements (5 goals, 1 assist) in twenty-two all competition appearances for AS Trencin this term.
