Confirmed team news: Man Utd coach reveals Chido Obi in contention to face ex-club Arsenal
Published: March 07, 2025
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that rising star Chido Obi will be available for selection in Sunday's Premier League clash against Arsenal at Old Trafford.
Chido Obi, who made his Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur, was absent from United's 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad in the UEFA Europa League.
However, Amorim has now assured fans that the youngster is in contention for the highly anticipated fixture against his former club.
Speaking during his press conference, Amorim voiced his frustration over United's performance in the final moments of the draw in Spain, emphasizing the team's fatigue.
"We have to prepare for Sunday and then think about this important game in our season on Thursday. But, in this moment, I don't know, " Amorim was quoted as saying by United's official webpage.
When specifically asked about Obi's availability, the United boss confirmed: "Everybody can start. If they are training tomorrow [Friday], if they played today [Thursday], they can be ready. Chido is on the list, so he can play.
"We are trying to see all the players that are fresh and that are not in danger of getting an injury. Even that, we have to risk a little but we have to be competitive on Sunday."
Since his summer move from Arsenal, Obi has been a revelation for United's youth setup, netting 15 goals across all competitions, including a sensational hat-trick against Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup.
His outstanding form has caught Amorim's attention, earning him a place in the senior squad amid injuries to key players.
