'What a delivery from Iwobi' - Goodman calls out Fulham's Sessegnon after costly miss v Bournemouth
Published: April 15, 2025
Former West Brom striker Don Goodman has criticized Ryan Sessegnon following his glaring miss during Fulham’s 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Monday night, despite a brilliant cross from Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi.
The pivotal moment came in the 37th minute when Iwobi floated a pinpoint cross into the box, only for Sessegnon to head the ball straight at Bournemouth goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The miss proved costly as Fulham failed to find an equalizer before the halftime break and eventually fell to a narrow defeat at the Vitality stadium.
Reacting to the miss while analyzing the game on Sky Sports, Goodman praised Iwobi’s delivery but did not hold back in his criticism of Sessegnon’s effort.
"What a delivery from Iwobi, but there's no real conviction in the header,” Goodman said. “It's a free header and he's unchallenged but he gets it wrong."
Iwobi, who has been one of Fulham’s most consistent performers this season, was a constant threat throughout the encounter.
Despite the disappointing result, Iwobi's performance once again underlined his importance to Marco Silva’s side.
The former Arsenal and Everton man has now recorded eight goals and provided five assists in 32 Premier League appearances this season.
With the Unity Cup tournament in London and the resumption of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on the horizon, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle will be encouraged by Iwobi’s current form.
The 28-year-old is expected to play a vital role as Nigeria looks to bounce back in the qualification campaign following recent setbacks.
