'He’s a quality player' - Lookman hypes De Ketelaere after Atalanta's demolition of Monza
Published: May 04, 2025
Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman expressed his satisfaction after scoring in Atalanta’s emphatic 4-0 away win over Monza, calling the result an important response to their previous disappointment against Lecce.
The Nigerian forward ended a six-game Serie A goal drought with a composed second-half strike as Gian Piero Gasperini’s men ran riot at the U-Power Stadium in their Matchday 35 fixture on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, Lookman highlighted the significance of such a dominant away performance.
"Scoring four goals away from home is important,” Lookman saidm according to Tuttomercatoweb.
"We weren’t happy with the home draw in the last round, and we wanted to get back to winning ways."
The result marked a major statement from the Europa League holders as they continue their pursuit of UEFA Champions League qualification.
Atalanta had been held 1-1 by Lecce in their previous outing, a result that slightly derailed their momentum.
But against Monza, they were ruthless and clinical, with Lookman playing a key role in the attacking display.
Lookman’s goal—his first in Serie A since March 9—was part of a coordinated team move.
Mateo Retegui set him up with a clever layoff, and the 27-year-old finished with the confidence he showed earlier in the season.
The strike took his tally to 19 goals and seven assists in all competitions for the campaign.
The Nigerian forward also spoke highly of his attacking partner Charles De Ketelaere, who ended a 16-game goal drought against Monza .
Asked about playing alongside the Belgian, Lookman responded: "He's a quality player, the important thing is to keep his spirits high."
Atalanta’s next few matches could define their season, and with Lookman regaining his sharpness, they will be confident of finishing strongly.
