'Real leader' - Ibrahim singles out Declan Rice for praise after training with Arsenal first team
Published: May 07, 2025
Arsenal youngster Ibrahim has hailed Declan Rice as a key influence in his development after training alongside the senior squad.
Speaking to Arsenal's official website, Ibrahim reflected on the invaluable experience of stepping up to first-team sessions, and the impact of learning from one of the team's standout figures.
Ibrahim was one of five Nigerian players who signed scholarship deals with Arsenal ahead of the 2024–2025 season, alongside Andre Harriman-Annous, Joshua Ogunnaike, Samuel Onyekachukwu and Khari Ranson.
He has appeared in twenty-two matches in the U18 Premier League this term, while making debuts in the UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup.
"I’ve had quite a few opportunities to train with the first team, which has been a massive learning experience, especially working with someone like Declan Rice, who plays in a similar position," Ibrahim said.
Ibrahim was full of praise for Rice's professionalism and leadership qualities, highlighting the England international’s welcoming attitude and guidance on the training ground.
"He’s always encouraging, always making people feel welcome. He’s a top professional with an elite mentality, and you can see why he’s had such an impact since joining the club," he added.
Describing Rice as a 'real leader,' Ibrahim said the midfielder regularly offers advice during sessions.
"He’s a real leader – he’ll give me pointers on things like body shape and positioning, which has been so helpful," he noted.
Although Ife Ibrahim has been registered by Arsenal for the UEFA Champions League, the talented midfielder will not make his senior debut on Wednesday evening when the Gunners take on Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc de Princes.
The 17-year-old was left out of the traveling squad, which included two Nigeria-eligible players: Nathan Butler-Oyedeji and Ethan Nwaneri.
