'Has nothing to do with money' - Former referee expects Osimhen to leave Galatasaray for good
Published: May 07, 2025
Former Turkish referee Ahmet Çakar has cast doubt over Victor Osimhen’s long-term future at Galatasaray, asserting that the Nigerian striker is set to leave the club after the season — and not for financial reasons.
Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Italian giants Napoli, has been in sensational form, netting 33 goals and providing eight assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.
His standout performances have made him a key figure in Galatasaray’s push for domestic glory, including a potential league title and cup triumph.
However, in quotes relayed by habersarikirmizi, Çakar declared that the 26-year-old’s departure is almost inevitable.
"In my opinion, Osimhen is one of the best foreigners in Galatasaray's history, " Cakar said.
"He is very young and has a lot of talent. Of course, it is his dream and right to go to a big team from the best leagues in the world.
"I don't think he can stay at Galatasaray. This has nothing to do with money or wealth. So what happens when Osimhen leaves?"
The former referee also emphasized the striker’s immense impact on the team’s season.
"As a result, Osimhen is the leading player in Galatasaray's possible championship this year.
"I don't know if Galatasaray would have become champions if he hadn't come. His contribution is enormous," he added.
Osimhen’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with reports linking him to several European heavyweights including Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.
Despite the uncertainty, Osimhen remains focused on helping Galatasaray secure a domestic double before any decision is made on his future.
