Record-breaking strike: Chelsea reveal George's ranking in April's Goal of the Month
Published: May 07, 2025
Talented London-born Nigerian forward Tyrique George has missed out on Chelsea's Goal of the Month for April 2025, with the official website of the Blues revealing on Wednesday that Pedro Neto took home the prize.
Neto's sensational finish in a 2-1 victory over neighbors Fulham was the clear winner of the Goal of the Month, coming first with 53 percent of the vote and beating nine other contenders.
The eight other nominees were: Enzo Fernandez, Beever-Jones, Jadon Sancho, Donnell McNeilly, Ronnie Stutter, Sandy Baltimore, Wieke Kaptein and Nicolas Jackson.
Sancho's stunner against Ipswich Town came second with 28 percent, while Tyrique George's strike versus Fulham took third place with five percent.
George made history with his goal, becoming the youngest Nigerian to score for Chelsea in the Premier League at 19 years and 75 days, surpassing Carney Chukwuemeka's previous record.
Chukwuemeka, a player of interest to Super Eagles boss Eric Chelle, set the previous record on August 20, 2023 when he found the net during Chelsea's 3-1 loss to West Ham United, aged 19 years and 304 days.
Five minutes after replacing Nicolas Jackson, George changed the momentum of the game, drilling the ball into the bottom corner to bring Chelsea back on terms, before Pedro Neto scored in stoppage time to seal the win.
Apart from George and Chukwuemeka, the other player to score for Chelsea in the Premier League whilst still a teenager is former Super Eagles star Celestine Babayaro.
George could make his 23rd appearance of the season on Thursday when Chelsea take on Swedish side Djurgarden in their Conference League semi-final second leg at Stamford Bridge.
