England-eligible Super Eagles striker clinches another West Brom end-of-season award
Published: May 13, 2025
Nigeria international Josh Maja has picked up another end-of-season award at Championship side West Brom.
Four days after winning the Men's 2024-2025 Top Goalscorer award, thanks to his 12 goals in 26 matches, the Baggies informed via the official website that Maja has scooped the Goal of the Season accolade.
Maja missed the second half of the 2024-2025 season due to a lower leg injury that required surgery.
His stoppage time strike in the first half of the 1-1 draw against Victor Moses's Luton Town on November 1, 2024 was voted the most eye-catching goal scored by a West Brom player in the recently concluded season.
Maja's stylish flick from Karlan Grant’s low delivery gave West Brom the lead at Kenilworth Road, but Tahith Chong’s response ensured the match ended all square.
The Nigerian's exquisite goal saw off competition from Isaac Price's excellent volley versus Hull City and John Swift's free kick at Turf Moor to win the Ideal Heating 2024/25 Men's Goal of the Season.
Maja made his Super Eagles debut in an international friendly against Ukraine in September 2019, coming off the bench to replace Victor Osimhen in stoppage time.
Since then, the Sunderland academy product has remained out of the international picture, going over five years without a call-up to the Nigeria national team.
Born in London, Maja remains eligible to represent England's Three Lions as he has yet to feature in a competitive match for the Super Eagles.
