Top of the goalscoring chart: Dessers' brace against Dundee United fires Rangers striker to No. 1
Published: May 14, 2025
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers continued his fine run of form on Wednesday night, netting a brace to inspire Rangers to a 3-1 comeback victory over Dundee United in their final home game of the season at Ibrox Stadium.
Dessers, who has faced persistent criticism from sections of the Rangers fanbase this season, responded in emphatic fashion at Ibrox, scoring twice to help his side overturn an early deficit.
With his brace against Dundee United, Dessers now has seventeen league goals to his name and sits atop the Scottish Premiership goalscoring chart, one ahead of Celtic’s Daizen Maeda and Dundee’s Simon Murray.
The visitors took a surprise lead early in the game, but Dessers brought Rangers level just five minutes later, heading home after delightful cross from Jefté in the 25th minute.
The Nigerian forward struck again in the second half, calmly converting a penalty with 17 minutes left to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
Just two minutes later, Nico Raskin added a third to seal the victory for Rangers.
Despite his impressive statistics, Dessers has endured criticism over the season, with speculation linking him to a potential move to clubs in Italy and Spain during the winter transfer market.
However, he opted to stay in Scotland and has since proven his worth with a series of strong performances.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Dessers will aim to maintain his goal-scoring momentum and boost his chances of earning a recall to the Super Eagles squad.
