No Shakhtar Donetsk move for Polish-Nigerian midfielder, Man Utd entitled to 40% sell-on fee

Manchester United academy graduate Maxi Oyedele will not be joining Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk in the upcoming summer transfer window, despite recent reports linking him with a move.
According to Przegląd Sportowy, citing Rabona Media, claims that Shakhtar were prepared to trigger Oyedele’s €6 million release clause have been swiftly denied by the club’s sporting director, Darijo Srna.
The 20-year-old midfielder had been tipped as a potential summer acquisition, but Srna moved quickly to shut down the speculation.
Nevertheless, Oyedele’s future remains a subject of interest across Europe, with several Premier League clubs monitoring his situation.
The Polish-English-Nigerian talent, who was born in Salford and previously featured for Manchester United’s youth sides, is believed to be prioritizing a return to England.
This season, the Legia Warsaw rising star has made 13 appearances in the Ekstraklasa, alongside five outings in the Conference League and three in the Polish Cup.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also weighed in on the situation, revealing via X that Manchester United have inserted a 40% sell-on clause in the player’s contract.
The €6 million release clause remains active heading into the summer window, putting the Red Devils in line for a significant windfall should a transfer materialize.
Despite earning two senior caps for Poland, Oyedele remains eligible to represent Nigeria at international level due to his age.
The midfielder is under contract with Legia Warsaw until the summer of 2027.
