Official: 2019 Golden Eaglets invitee hunting for new club after release by Reading
Published: May 16, 2025
2019 Golden Eaglets invitee Adrian Akande is hunting for a new club following his release by EFL League One club Reading.
Although named in Nigeria's squad for the 2019 U17 Afcon in Tanzania, the exciting winger didn’t see any game time, with Manu Garba opting for forwards like Akinkunmi Amoo, Wisdom Ubani and Olakunle Olusegun instead.
The Royals confirmed their retained and released list on Friday, and Akande is among six first teamers set to depart the club upon the expiration of their contracts on June 30, alongside Coniah Boyce-Clarke, David Button, Tom Carroll, Harlee Dean and Louie Holzman.
Akande joined Reading's academy setup in August 2022 following his release by Swansea City, after spending his formative years with Londoners Crystal Palace and Chelsea.
He was promoted to the first team after his imperious displays for the development squad, tallying fifteen goal involvements in twenty-two Premier League 2 games, including the playoffs.
Akande is departing the Royals, having scored one goal and provided an assist in twenty-one appearances for the first team.
Meanwhile, Reading are keen on retaining the services of Kelvin Ehibatiomhan, who has been offered fresh terms ahead of the start of pre-season preparations.
The 22-year-old forward has 17 goals and 6 assists in 92 matches for Reading's first team, having risen through the ranks to make his senior debut in a League Cup clash against Swansea City in August 2021.
