Green light from DFB: NFF confirm Felix Agu is eligible to make Super Eagles debut in Unity Cup
Published: May 24, 2025
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) have officially confirmed that Felix Nnaemeka Agu is eligible to represent the Super Eagles at the senior international level.
This confirmation comes after the German Football Federation (DFB) clarified that Agu has never played for Germany in any official competitive match at both senior and junior levels.
According to a statement revealed on the NFF’s official X page on Saturday, the DFB confirmed that Agu’s only appearances for Germany were two friendly matches for the U21 team back in 2019.
Since these were non-competitive games, Agu remains fully eligible to switch allegiance and represent Nigeria.
Felix Agu, who currently plays as a defender for Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, was initially invited to train with the Super Eagles ahead of the upcoming Unity Cup tournament in London.
However, he had not yet joined the team for training before this latest development confirmed his eligibility.
This official confirmation removes any doubts over Agu’s international future and paves the way for his possible debut with Nigeria’s national team on Wednesday evening when the Super Eagles take on Ghana's Black Stars at the Gtech Community Stadium in the Unity Cup.
The NFF’s announcement marks a significant step in securing the services of promising talents like Agu to bolster Nigeria’s defensive options ahead of the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers later this year.
