'We'll be at the World Cup 100% sure' – Chukwueze confident ahead of battle of Bloemfontein
Published: September 08, 2025
Nigeria's Super Eagles are gearing up for a crucial 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifying clash against South Africa on Tuesday, September 9, at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.
With South Africa currently leading Group C, the fixture represents a major test for Nigeria’s World Cup aspirations.
Samuel Chukwueze, who recently joined Fulham on loan from AC Milan, has spoken confidently about the challenge ahead.
He was an unused substitute in Nigeria’s narrow 1-0 victory over Rwanda but remains a vocal presence within the squad.
Acknowledging the strength of the South African side, he also emphasized Nigeria’s capabilities.
"South Africa is a strong team. They have a good team also. They are first in the group," Chukwueze said.
"We are Nigerian, so we have a good team also. So we can compete with them.
Chukwueze stressed the importance of faith and focus as the team seeks a positive result in Bloemfontein.
"I think by the grace of God we want a good result here. The most important thing for us to come here, we are looking forward on that."
Addressing fans, the winger appealed for their unwavering support, noting that motivation from home is crucial in high-stakes qualifiers.
"We'll be at the World Cup 100% sure, but we all just need all Nigerian support for us. It's not only one person now rooting for us. But it's up to us to make it."
Despite the absence of star striker Victor Osimhen due to a foot injury, he expressed confidence in the squad’s depth and talent.
"I believe in this team. We have so many great talents, and we have to qualify. That's the most important thing," Chukwueze concluded .
