'Nigerians are disappointed in Super Eagles’ – Ahmed Musa honest admission before Ghana clash
Published: May 27, 2025
Ahmed Musa has acknowledged that Nigerian fans are deeply disappointed with the recent performances of the Super Eagles but has urged them to continue supporting the team as they prepare to face Ghana in Wednesday’s Unity Cup match at the Gtech Community Stadium.
"Yeah, we know that a lot of Nigerians are, I would say, very disappointed in the Super Eagles,” Musa told the Super Eagles media team in London.
"But I will always call on them to just keep on supporting us because that is what we need right now. Their support will make a very big impact for us."
The 32-year-old forward, who currently plays for Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Premier Football League, is making a return to the national team after an extended absence.
"Yeah, for me, I'm always happy whenever I get a call-up,” he said.
“So for me, I'm very happy to be back. It has been a long time but I don't think there's any difference. We just wait and see on the day of the game what is going to happen.”
Musa is expected to bring experience and leadership to a Super Eagles side looking to rebuild confidence following poor results in recent World Cup qualifiers.
His return also comes at a time when the squad includes a number of home-based players, a move he has welcomed.
"As you can see, a lot of home-based boys are in the team,” Musa said.
"I think the coach watched a lot of Nigeria Professional Football League games, so I feel very happy for them. Let’s see what can happen in the game.”
The Unity Cup encounter against Ghana’s Black Stars will serve as a key test for Nigeria under new head coach Eric Chelle, and Musa’s presence is expected to steady the side.
