Arokodare finally arrives in Super Eagles camp on eve of Unity Cup clash against Ghana
Published: May 27, 2025
Tolu Arokodare is finally in camp, bringing the number of Super Eagles players present in London to 23 ahead of their opening match against Ghana in the 2025 Unity Cup.
The Racing Genk striker’s arrival adds further firepower to Eric Chelle’s squad as preparations continue at full throttle.
Arokodare joins the team on the back of a highly productive season in the Belgian Pro League, where he netted 21 goals and contributed six assists in 40 league appearances for Genk.
His impressive form has made him one of Nigeria’s standout performers in Europe this season, and his inclusion in the national setup is seen as a timely boost ahead of a demanding tournament schedule.
The Super Eagles are currently camped in London, where they are fine-tuning tactics and team chemistry ahead of their Unity Cup opener against long-time rivals Ghana on Wednesday, May 28, at the Gtech Community Stadium. The tournament also features Caribbean nations Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago, with matches scheduled to run from May 27 to 31.
With Arokodare now on ground, head coach Eric Chelle has access to even more attacking options as he balances a squad filled with both established internationals and promising home-based talents.
The team already includes key European-based players such as Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Frank Onyeka, Nathan Tella, Felix Agu, Cyriel Dessers, and Semi Ajayi.
Domestic league stars, including NPFL veteran Ahmed Musa, Junior Nduka, Sodiq Ismaila, Waliu Ojetoye, Ifeanyi Onyebuchi, Papa Mustapha, Saviour Isaac, Collins Ugwueze, Sikiru Alimi, and Abubakar Adamu, are also part of the squad.
The arrival of Samuel Chukwueze and Stanley Nwabali earlier this week has further bolstered team morale.
Still expected to report are goalkeepers Amas Obasogie and Maduka Okoye, as well as midfielder Christantus Uche.
The Unity Cup provides an important opportunity for Chelle to assess his squad in a competitive setting and make critical decisions ahead of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
With 23 players now in camp, the Super Eagles look well-equipped to begin their campaign on a high.
