'Some guys left this camp for different reasons' - Eric Chelle eyes victory in Russia despite setbacks
Published: June 04, 2025
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has expressed strong determination to secure a victory in the upcoming international friendly match against Russia.
Speaking to Austin Okon Akpan ahead of the clash, Chelle outlined his game plan, emphasizing an aggressive approach despite the challenges of playing away from home.
“We go to Russia to win,” Chelle declared confidently. "It will be difficult because we are on the road, but we go to Russia for the win."
The coach acknowledged the tough nature of the fixture, noting the logistical and competitive hurdles of facing a formidable opponent like Russia on their home turf.
Chelle revealed that the team has faced some setbacks, with several players leaving the camp for various reasons, including family matters and injuries.
"Some guys left this camp for different reasons—family, injuries,” he explained.
Despite these challenges, the coach remains focused on maintaining a winning mentality.
"My vision and my goal, like I said to my players, is we need to win every game," he stated emphatically.
The Super Eagles have been preparing diligently, with a new group of players joining the squad in Nigeria to bolster the team’s efforts.
Chelle’s strategy is clear: instill a relentless drive for victory in every match, regardless of the circumstances.
This friendly against Russia serves as a critical opportunity for the team to test their mettle and build momentum for future competitions.
