Arsenal Goal of the Season: Nwaneri nominated for historic Champions League strike

Arsenal’s rising star Ethan Nwaneri has been named among the ten nominees for the club’s 2024/25 Goal of the Season award, following his memorable strike in a 2-1 UEFA Champions League win over Girona on January 29, 2025.
The 18-year-old midfielder marked his first Champions League start with a brilliant left-footed effort, cutting in from the right before curling the ball into the far corner to seal the win.
Nwaneri’s goal not only secured Arsenal’s place in the last-16 of the competition but also confirmed his emergence as one of the most exciting prospects in English football.
His effort is among a list of standout strikes from across the men’s and women’s teams, including Kai Havertz’s composed finish against Brighton, Declan Rice’s long-range strike versus Real Madrid, and Katie McCabe’s screamer against West Ham United.
Nwaneri also made history as the youngest player to score for Arsenal in the Champions League, at 17 years and 314 days.
His nomination emphasizes the growing role he is playing in the Arsenal squad, stepping up impressively during a period when key players like Bukayo Saka were sidelined due to injury.
The winner of the Emirates Goal of the Season will be announced later this month.
