Galatasaray interested in Super Eagles GK amid N27b price tag and alleged betting scandal
Published: July 09, 2025
Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is reportedly on the radar of Turkish giants Galatasaray, even as he faces scrutiny over an alleged betting scandal tied to a Serie A fixture against Lazio on March 11, 2024.
Okoye, who resurrected his career in Italy after a challenging spell with Watford in England, has become a standout performer for Udinese since his arrival in the summer of 2023.
The 25-year-old shot-stopper kept ten clean sheets in 48 appearances across all competitions for Udinese, cementing his place as a reliable figure in goal for the Serie A side.
Galatasaray are said to be eyeing Okoye as a long-term successor to veteran Uruguayan goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, who departed the club at the end of the 2024/2025 campaign.
However, the Yellow-Reds have reportedly initiated contact with Udinese to assess Okoye's availability.
According to reports in Turkey via Italian outlet Calcio Udinese, Udinese have slapped a €15 million (approximately N27 billion in Nigerian currency) price tag on Okoye, a figure Galatasaray are currently considering as they look to reinforce their squad with a player boasting both international experience and room for growth.
Despite the brewing transfer interest, Okoye’s situation is complicated by ongoing investigations into a suspected betting irregularity related to his booking in the Lazio match.
While no formal charges have been announced, Okoye will be hoping to resolve any legal uncertainties, avoid potential disciplinary action, and focus on continuing his upward trajectory in European football.
