Official: Italian Serie D club sign Nigeria's 2014 World Cup star Eddy Onazi

Italian Serie D club Acireale have confirmed the signing of out-of-favour Nigeria international Eddy Onazi.

The 32-year-old arrives with a wealth of international and top-flight experience, underlining Acireale’s intent to build a competitive squad.

Onazi is best known for his time at Lazio, where he made 76 appearances, scored four goals, and won the Coppa Italia in 2013, starting in the final against Roma.

He later featured in the Champions League and Europa League before moving on to clubs in Turkey, Lithuania and lower-tier Italian sides, including Trabzonspor, Denizlispor, Zalgiris Vilnius, Casertana and Avezzano.

On the international stage, Onazi was part of Nigeria's Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad in 2013 and shone for the Super Eagles at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where he started all the four matches contested by a team coached by the legendary Stephen Keshi.

He has been in the international wilderness for approximately seven years, having made his last appearance for the Super Eagles in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Seychelles in September 2018.

He has earned 53 caps for the three-time African champions since making his senior debut against Liberia in 2012.

Onazi's other clubs include Denizlispor, SønderjyskE, Al-Adalah, East Riffa and Kitchee and Charlotte Independence.
