'We play at home' – Morocco coach Jorge Vilda aims to stop Super Falcons world record bid
Published: July 25, 2025
Moroccan head coach Jorge Vilda has issued a strong warning to the Super Falcons, emphasizing his team's desire and determination to make history by winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday evening.
Ahead of the Wafcon showpiece against the Atlas Lionesses, the Super Falcons are aiming to set a new world record as the national team with the most continental titles.
Nigeria, the most successful team in Wafcon history, have claimed the African title on nine occasions — a feat that sees them share the record for the most continental triumphs in women's football with China (AFC) and the United States (Concacaf).
Nigeria advanced to the final following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over South Africa, while Morocco secured their place after a tense penalty shootout win against Ghana.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Vilda praised the quality and experience of the Nigerian team but stressed that his players are driven to deliver glory for their nation.
“A team with a very high mid-level. It is a team that not only has physically strong players, but also different players on an individual level. They also have experience in other competitions,” Vilda said of the Super Falcons.
Despite his admiration for Nigeria’s pedigree, the Spanish tactician made it clear that Morocco is ready to rise to the occasion in front of their passionate home crowd.
“I say it again, it is a game and a final. We play at home. We play with our fans. Our players have a lot of desire and enthusiasm to make history. We are here to make history. They have it inside, and that is what we are going to try to do,” he added.
The Super Falcons are aiming to reclaim continental supremacy by winning their tenth WAFCON title, having missed out on a podium finish in the last edition of the tournament.
