'I'm going to help Arsenal' – Wright wants Everton, Fulham, Leicester alum Lookman back in PL
Published: August 05, 2025
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has made a passionate case for the Gunners to bring Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman back to the Premier League, declaring the Nigerian star could be the final piece in Mikel Arteta’s title-chasing puzzle.
Wright expressed deep admiration for Lookman’s transformation in Italy and urged Arsenal to consider a move.
"I would love someone like him to come back to the Premier League and say, ‘Listen, I have unfinished business here, so I am going to help Arsenal win the league,’" Wright said, according to The Mirror UK.
The 27-year-old forward has enjoyed a career renaissance since joining Atalanta in 2022, registering 52 goals and 25 assists across 118 appearances.
His crowning moment came in the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League final, where he scored a sensational hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen to deliver the club’s first-ever European trophy.
"But I just admire his journey,” Wright continued. “And now he’s recognised rightly as a top player—unbelievable."
A Charlton Athletic academy graduate, Lookman previously endured inconsistent spells at Everton, Fulham and Leicester City.
He registered 11 goals and six assists across 96 Premier League appearances during his spells with Everton, Fulham and Leicester City.
Lookman's resurgence in Serie A has catapulted him into the spotlight and reignited Premier League interest.
While Arsenal have not made an official approach for Lookman, Wright’s comments are being seen as a strong endorsement for the club to act.
Tensions have grown behind the scenes at Atalanta, with Lookman reportedly submitting a transfer request on August 3.
The Nigerian attacker is said to be frustrated by what his camp describes as “poor treatment” and “broken promises” from the club.
Talks over his future have stalled, particularly with Atalanta reluctant to sell him to domestic rivals Inter Milan—one of the clubs showing strong interest.
Despite interest from Inter and Atletico Madrid, no deal has materialised, and Lookman’s future remains uncertain.
Atalanta are believed to value the player at around €50 million (£43 million).
Arsenal have been active in the summer transfer window, securing deals for Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Christian Mosquera, Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres.
However, Wright believes Lookman’s drive and creativity could provide the attacking edge needed to finally clinch the Premier League title after three consecutive second-place finishes.
